5 Tips To Rock Your Boudoir Session | #5 Will SHOCK You | Oshkosh Boudoir

It's perfectly normal to be nervous before your boudoir session.

Everyone gets those butterflies when they book their session.  If you’ve never had a boudoir session before, you might even be wondering if there’s anything you could or should do to help your session go smoothly.  That’s why I’ve compiled this list of tips to help you get the most out of your session!

1. When in doubt, get your hair and makeup done.

If you’re unsure of how you want to do your hair and makeup, or if you aren’t comfortable doing your own hair and makeup, bring in a professional.  Luckily for you, I have partnered up with a local hair and makeup artist who can do your hair and makeup so you don’t even have to worry about finding a professional!  Also, keep in mind not everyone wants their hair and makeup done, and that’s okay, too.  The goal of your images is to capture you, and if that means hair and makeup isn’t your thing, then don’t sweat it!

2. Take the time for self-care.

Get the mani-pedi you’ve been thinking about.  Get your wax in if you want one.  Get that tan you’ve been considering (but make sure it’s at least 2 weeks BEFORE your session so you don’t have tan lines or sun burns!)

A few days before your session, reduce your salt intake to avoid bloating and eat a light breakfast the morning of your session.  Drink plenty of water for at least a week prior to your session for healthy skin, and get all.the.rest.  Be prepared to do some stretches, because a boudoir session is a workout!  You’ll feel amazing, you’ll look amazing, and you’ll be ready to let that inner goddess out.

3. Pick a wardrobe that you love.

One of the great things about boudoir is that it doesn’t have to be in lingerie.  A button-down, large sweater, or a tight shirt and booty shorts will also look great!

Whatever you pick to wear, make sure it fits correctly.  Items that are too small can look and feel uncomfortable, and items that are too big (unintentionally) can be unflattering.

4. Trust your photographer.

I know a boudoir session is usually pretty far out of most people’s comfort zone.  None of my clients are models.  None of my clients have ever taken any kind of posing classes.  All of my clients are real people.  Trust that I will coach you in poses that help you look and feel your absolute best and that I’m going to do everything in my power to ensure you are in a safe, comfortable environment for you to be vulnerable in.  You hired a professional for a reason!

5. Be confident.

This is probably the most surprising of all the tips, because it’s the most simple, and because I always tell people: fake it until you make it.  Be confident in your photographer, in your session, and most importantly, in yourself because you are going to rock this session.  If you’re having a hard time feeling confident (most people do!) fake it until you feel confident.  I promise, before your session is over, you’ll feel the confidence find you.
